As Flat White Quick Shots comments today, former Liberal leader John Hewson is a tad PO’d he’s been dumped as a columnist by the Age and Sydney Morning Herald.
Hewson believes it is because he is a critic of the Morrison government, convincing himself the now Nine Entertainment papers, a company chaired by one Peter Costello, doesn’t like that sort of thing.
The reality, tweeted SMH editor Lisa Davies, is that Hewie’s making way for a 50:50 gender balance in the papers’ columnist stable.
In these woke times, Hewson could keep his gig by identifying as a woman in a man’s body: as James Macpherson points out above, that solution would be perfectly acceptable to the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Commissioner.
For Hewson, however, the sisterhood has spoken. For him, there will be no Fightback.
But if Nine’s management wants to make their flagship newspapers the home of left-leaning mediocrities like long-term columnist Elizabeth Farrelly, whose excruciatingly toe-curling 2015 fangirl homage to Malcolm Turnbull still cures constipation and kills rats, simply because their primary claim to a column is their gender rather than their experience, intellect and ability to write, who are we to complain?
